What I did on my weekend

The last time I wrote one of these was for my travelpod website thingie, which interestingly enough I got photo of the day the other day for my three bridges photo from Slovenia (yeah me).

Anyway, what a weekend! Friday night started with Sarahs (before you ask - different Sarah)birthday up in Primrose Hill at the Engineer. Damn good that was, and all intentions of leaving early vanished very quickly. Roll on early morning night bus. Still managed to get up after 3 hours sleep at 4:30 and get down to the Eurostar though. Funny thing was that I think I handled the early get up worse than Kate.

So got on the train, got to Brussels, sped across to Brugge. Brugge, lovely town, all good, European city of culture in 2003 don't you know.

Basically ended up walking around, taking a canal cruise, and generally enjoying the scenery. I fully recommend this city if you get a chance to go to it. Yeah, it isn't the most exciting in terms of things to do, but you have a lot of culture, archetecture and scenery crammed into one small area, great seafood, great chocolates, and a really chilled atmosphere. For some reason it reminded me of Amsterdam but it is way more intimate. I only say Amsterdam because most of our time was spend around the canals.

Funny thing to mention about Brugge - I didn't have a single beer! I think I was still recuperating from the night before. Coffee was spectacular though - damn you English people, learn how to make a good coffee - but my taste buds are slowly dieing due to lack of coffee stimulation in the UK so I'm no judge of a good coffee anymore (I still hate starbucks though so I do have some credability)!

From there it was back to Brussels for two days . Can't be bothered getting into too much detail, but basically we hated our hotel (5 star my @55) and had at least one shite meal where Kate and I nearly walked out without paying. Damn those people were rude and pushy, and it takes a bit too peev me off too! The rest was all good, but I must admit that for the second time around Brussels ain't that great. Yeah there are some cool sights there - the Atomium (see photo), Grand Place, the pissing boy, the antique markets, the beer (of course), the chocolate, the waffles, various palaces and governmental/European buildings, but it just doesn't have the same vibe as Brugge - it's too cityish.

So that was my weekend. Book for the weekend was "Bound Feet & Western Dress" by Pang-Mei Natasha Chang. Damn good book, very sad yet very inspirational as well. Fully recommend it if you haven't read it. Beer for the weekend as Kwak (had to be really) and food for the weekend was waffles - if you really needed to ask. Animal for the weekend was definitely not a pony.

I am now educated in what a Kwak is. Now I need to get my hands on one.
